Taken at the last workshop run by [info]scottchurch, he is back again on the 2nd August, but having just arrived back from Canada it might be pushing it to try to have enough brain to take decent pictures.

I would recommend his workshops, I've found them pretty useful.

An evening of spodding led me to an interview with Katie Jane Garside
News at 11 : She is bananas.

I seem to be disappearing under big piles of work during the daytime. Off to the factory in Wales next week, where I can hopefully concentrate on what they need, and ignore other things for a few days. This might get me back on top of at least some things....

Any of the Covgoths interested in going over to Leicester tomorrow night?

Birthday at home.
Decided against going to work today, and so far I'm having a lovely day at home with [info]keris instead. Very lazy breakfast, then some exciting unwrapping (I've now got a mad self-assembly straw thing :)) This afternoon we are off into town for a walk around

I've also realised that there are a lot of pictures that I've not shared on LJ, so a picture of [info]fracture242

Still, in lieu of real content, I can at least give you a picture, from my less than successful attempt to take some pictures from Ministry.

Another poll
A random charity-shop purchase didn't quite go as planned today, due to very questionable lyrics.

A lack of Dott, and staying in Oxford
[info]keris was off out in South Africa this week, so I was left at home to wreak havoc. Havoc mostly consisted of a lot of food that [info]keris doesn't like, and films she finds boring.

I did have to go down to Seer Green on Thursday, to talk to some of the electronics people. I took advantage of this to stop off in Oxford and visit [info]quisalan. We had cocktails in Raouls, dinner in Browns, and pudding in G&D's, and I finally got to meet the mysterious R.

I'm probably not going to go down to Seer Green that often, but when I do I may well pop in to Oxford on the way past.

Ask the internet.
Having buying a new computer thoughts, though I don't really need one (Phoenix is still pretty good for most of the stuff I am up to.)

Upsides:
Shiny new toy points
May be a bit quicker for photo stuff

Downsides:
Don't know what I might want? Might have to read up on things.
Money that could be carefully saved plonked onto camera gear.
I'd just end up buying some fancy game. And then I'd loose vast amounts of time.

Pictures from the Friday evening of Whitby. As usual, I’m not terribly quick at actually posting some images. The pictures from Saturday are coming in the next post.

Edit: Thanks to [info]emperor for pointing out my HTML failure

Ministry
That was a new record for number of shots taken with photopass.

Twelve whole pictures. And the band were behind a cage, so who knows what they'll have turned out like (Daves current estimate, they'll be shite.)

Missed the start of the gig due to them starting some time before 8:30. Didn't recognise that many of the tracks, so I am guessing that they were mainly from the newer albums. On the plus side, got an early train home.

Nap time now.

Occasionally I bump into a photograph that I think is pretty amazing. This is one of those:

Happy birthday [info]toripink

I took my computer down with me to Wales, so I've managed to get most of the way through processing the Whitby pictures. Not done the organising them into a webpage, or indeed cutting the number of pictures down to a small selection to show. Should be showing up here in the next few days anyhow.

Wales
I was down in Wales again at the factory for a few days this week. Whilst we did have a timetable of what we were planning on achieving, this got changed out of all recognition and we did other stuff instead. Still, we were doing useful things and it felt good to do actual constructive work, rather than watching and learning existing procedures. I've a pile of ideas for things to do over the next few years, and a meeting tomorrow with my boss in order to work out exactly what it is I should be doing.

Still job happy :)

Photoshop
I seem to be playing with photographs in Photoshop. I've not really done that much before, so it is quite exciting changing things around, though it does probably mean that I am making a mess of some photographs.

But USM! Very exciting! I think that I might be a bit behind the learning curve on this aspect of the digital photography lark.

Llantrisant.
This week I’ve been over in Wales at our factory which is based just outside Cardiff. It has been a pretty good week to be honest. We’ve gone through various bits of build procedure, and I’ve got another bundle of work that will need doing as well as a trip to Canada in the offing.

Rob, the guy that I’m replacing, has been up here for a few days as well, so there we managed to do quite a bit of knowledge transfer as well.

I’m staying in The Vale Hotel, which is rather nice, and I’m lying on a daft-huge bed as I type this. It has its own golf course, and going to the car-park one has avoid the golfers in their buggies. I’d never actually seen one in the flesh before, and they look extremely silly. Staying in a hotel also means a super breakfast and pretty damned nice dinner. Since the factory also has a canteen for lunch, I’ve been pigging up. Ah the sacrifices I make for the sake of work :)

Looks like in the next month or two I'll be back here (probably several times) down near London a few times, over in Canada to see a supplier, and at least one trip over to Hamburg. Phew! I’m rather enjoying this new job.

I know Kung-Fu
Work appears to be a bit like the bit in the Matrix, where information gets downloaded directly into Neo's brain. This week was fairly hectic, as I started to find out more of what I am being asked to achieve, whilst having my brain frantically filled with what I need to know. Most of the week I was in Coventry, but on Thursday and Friday I went down to Seer Green, to see the R&D people down there. Met a lot of people, ending up with getting a really big list of names, and writing down who did what. I am not sure I can officially ask anyone to do anything for me, but at least knowing who to try to ask is a good start.

I'm not sure if I'm still having a super time, or becoming slightly overwhelmed with what I seem to have to do. Probably both to be honest. This has had the unfortunate side effect that I am starting to get behind on things from the fun side of life. After the next couple of weeks I should be getting back on top of stuff again.

Next week I'll be over near Cardiff, so I may well be a little incommunicado.

First day
Today was spent in a training course on how to use the Volocity software. Actually, it was scratching the surface of how to use it. Software training goes on for the rest of the week, and then the rest of the training programme continues for the entire month (With one day down in Beaconsfield, and a week and a half over in Wales.) It is really quite impressive how organised it all is.

Generally feeling quite enthusiastic about it all :)

[Photo] Smug at the roost.
Around two weeks ago I went along to a seminar held by [info]scottchurch in London. We were allowed to bring along a guest model with us, and so I came along with Smug.

We had met at a [info]nocturnal_uk group shoot and both left wanting to work with one another again. This was a good chance, but I am sure that we are going to try again in the Summer for another, somewhat longer, shoot.

More shots under the cut. )

Brighton and hats.
Most of last week was pretty lazy, but on Thursday I finally got my bike out and took it up to get serviced and repaired. Various bits and pieces required changing, but all in all it wasn't too much to get it back and going again. I cycled back home quickly, and soon realised that I'd not been cycling regularly in a couple of years, and what counted as a nice but quick cycle ride when I was commuting 10 miles a day was rather more tiring when I'd not got onto a bike in a couple of years. I'll see how things go, but I will probably cycle in to work reasonably regularly with the new job.

After getting that fixed I managed to get a last-minute photo-shoot arranged, and then was off to a thesis handing in party. It was a pretty hectic day. Once we finally got in, packing was required for a weekend down in Brighton.

[info]gothindulgence had arranged a joint shoot, for [info]croquetandroses. There were ten of us descending onto a B&B at the seaside, and on Saturday we spent the morning and evening taking photographs in and around Brighton. The afternoon was spent wandering around the town, sitting in a pub, and playing around on the pier. The shoot seems to have some pretty good results from a quick look at the back of the camera. Sorting them out should keep me busy for a wee while.
